How to Install Chrome OS Flex on Any PC or Laptop – Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Search for Chrome OS Flex Extension
Open Google Chrome browser.
In the search bar, type: chrome os flex extension
Press Enter to search.
From the results, click on the first link:https://support.google.com/chromeosflex/answer/11541904?hl=en
Step 2: Open Chrome Web Store and Add Extension
Go directly to the Chrome Web Store.
Step 3: Add Chromebook Recovery Utility to Chrome
On the Chrome Web Store page, you will see the extension:Chromebook Recovery Utility
Click on the blue button “Add to Chrome” on the top right.
A popup will appear — click “Add extension” to confirm.
The extension will now be added to your Chrome browser.
Step 4: Confirm the Extension is Installed
Click on the Extensions icon at the top-right of the Chrome browser.
In the list, you will see Chromebook Recovery Utility.
Click on the Chromebook Recovery Utility extension from the Chrome menu.
Step 5: Launch the Recovery Utility and Get Started
Click on the “Get Started” button to begin the process.
Step 6: Identify Your Chromebook Model
You will now see the screen titled “Identify your Chromebook.”
Click on “Select a model from a list.”
Step 7: Select Chrome OS Flex Model
This will allow you to manually choose the device type.
In the dropdown, select:
Manufacturer: Google Chrome OS Flex
Product: Chrome OS Flex
Once both are selected, click on the Continue button.,
Step 8: Insert and Select Your USB Drive
Choose your correct USB device from the list.
Click Continue to proceed.
Step 9: Create the Chrome OS Flex Recovery USB
Under Advanced Settings, you can select the version (keep it as Dev
if unsure).
Click the “Create now” button to begin the process.
Step 10: Recovery Media Creation Successful
Click on the Done button to finish the process.
Your USB drive is now ready to install Chrome OS Flex on any compatible device.
Step 11: Boot from Chrome OS Flex USB Drive
Insert the USB you created into the target PC or laptop.
Power on the device and press the boot menu key (commonly F9, F12, Esc, or F10 depending on the brand).
From the Boot Option Menu, select your USB drive
Press Enter to boot from the Chrome OS Flex USB installer.
Step 12: Begin Chrome OS Flex Setup
After booting from USB, you’ll see the welcome screen:“Welcome to ChromeOS Flex – Fast. Secure. Effortless.”
Click the “Get started” button at the bottom left to begin installation or try live mode.
Step 13: Install Chrome OS Flex or Try Without Installing
Select “Install ChromeOS Flex” for a full install.
Click on the Next button to begin the installation process.
Step 14: Confirm and Install Chrome OS Flex
You’ll now see a final confirmation screen titled “Install ChromeOS Flex.”
Click the “Install ChromeOS Flex” button to begin installation.
Step 15: Final Confirmation – Begin Installation
A popup will appear asking:“Install ChromeOS Flex and erase hard drive?”
If you’re ready, click on the blue “Install” button.
Step 16: Installation Complete – Ready to Use
You will see the message:“Installation complete”
Your device will automatically shut down in a few seconds.
Remove the USB drive before restarting the system.
Turn the device back on — it will now boot directly into Chrome OS Flex.
Step 17: Boot and Login
Once booting completes, you'll reach the ChromeOS Flex welcome/login screen.
Step 18: ChromeOS Flex Desktop Loaded
After the reboot, your system successfully loads into the ChromeOS Flex desktop interface.
You can now start using all the apps like Chrome, YouTube, Gmail, Docs, and more just like on a Chromebook.
